As you may have read in this story, http://www.oregonlive.com/trackandfield/index.ssf/2015/06/former_oregon_distance_runner.html, I have unfortunately been dealing with plantar fasciitis for the past few months. The last 3 weeks things had progressed very well and I was able to race at the Portland Track festival. However, after the race I developed quite severe tendonitis throughout my foot. After working so hard to come back to be able to compete at USAs it has been heartbreaking to have to pull out of racing this week. At this time I need to be smart though and think about my long term goals. Short term, I will be totally focused on getting my foot 100 percent healthy with the hopes of racing later this summer/fall.
Having never had an injury before, these past few months have been a huge learning experience for me with lots of challenges. I am determined to use these challenges to make me a better athlete and I hope anyone else out there who has struggled or is struggling with an injury will be able to find inspiration through my story. Hellen Keller said ““Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”Although I won’t be trying for a spot on the World Championship team this time, I am going to learn from this experience in order to be ready and focused on making the team during next year’s Olympic year as well as future World Championship years.
Thank you everyone for all of your support and kind words. It truly means a lot. Lastly, I’d like to wish everyone good luck competing this weekend, especially my NIKE Oregon Project teammates!
